You can’t trust your tongue to taste excess salt. But most Singaporeans believe they can tell if their food is too salty. As a result, we consume nearly twice the sodium we need, which can lead to health problems like hypertension and other diseases.
“Trust No Tongue” is a fun, cinematic take on the classic ‘whodunnit’ that illuminates the consequences of letting too much salt in, and our tongue’s role in this taste deception. Made by the Health Promotion Board as part of an ongoing nationwide lower-sodium campaign, this film pays homage to our rich Straits foodie culture and nostalgia for gangland movies.
The film has grabbed the attention of Singaporeans typically resistant to government messages, reaching 1 million views in 10 days to become 2023’s most viewed, shared and commented video on HPB’s Facebook and Instagram, and praised for its storytelling and creative approach to sodium education.
